Carbon Trust Logo COOL-PHASE System COOL-PHASE® passive ventilation system is Monodraught’s answer to mechanical air-conditioning systems (AC). Collaborating with The University of Nottingham, BASF Ltd, and the Carbon Trust, Monodraught has created an extremely low energy, intelligent passive cooling and heat recovery system for use within Commercial, Academic and Health Care environments. The main purpose of the COOL-PHASE system is to provide powered fresh air ventilation, but with the added capability of storing and discharging large amounts of latent thermal energy. The system incorporates a micro-encapsulated phase change material (PCM) slurry, which utilises latent thermal energy to allow for up to 4kWh of thermal storage, and supplying around 1kW of cooling at any one time. By passing the PCM through a series of precision engineered spiral wound heat exchangers, a significant temperature differential can be achieved as air is drawn through the system. This is all achieved using a fraction of the power required to run traditional AC systems, reducing carbon emissions and the detrimental effects, usually associated with AC. ©2010 Monodraught Ltd Terms | Privacy | Copyright | Contact Designed for Zero Carbon COOL-PHASE is a green alternative helping to reduce a building’s carbon footprint, but ultimately future development is to power the system entirely using a photo-voltaic array, providing a fully zero carbon alternative to air conditioning, for intelligent buildings of the future.
